The Village is the endearing nickname locals give NYC neighborhood, Greenwich Village. This summer, I too get to call this lovely location The Village–a fun upgrade from tourist to resident of the one-of-a-kind neighborhood in the heart of lower Manhattan. Is Maryland Girl to NYC Girl a thing? Can we make it a thing?
Fun fact: the pronunciation is gren-itch, by the way, this bit of information just a tad bit vital in the success of trying to find your way back home by asking a handful of subway-goers which line to take to get to Green-witch Village? Not one made me aware of my embarrassing mispronunciation until halfway into the summer, so you're welcome for the advance #PSA. Although, I do wonder why it's not spoken as Green-witch, as the location is as its mispronounced title suggests: green, green, and green, with trees lined up at every corner of the lively park in the heart of The Village i.e. Washington Square Park. And to the west of said park, lies Lipton *cough* Hayden *cough* Hall A.K.A. my home for the summer, overlooking the yogis and book-readers catching rays.
And what an unforgettable summer it has been so far as a resident of Greenwich Villa–ahem, The Village, with Washington Square Park as my symbolic backyard.
Can someone teach me how to win the lottery so that I never have to leave?
